Demystifying osteoporosis, arthritis, low back pain & ageing
£249 for 10 hours
As yoga teachers, we regularly work with students navigating osteoporosis, arthritis, persistent low back pain, and the natural changes that come with ageing.
These are not niche concerns. They are part of everyday teaching.
Yet the guidance around them is often conflicting, oversimplified, or outdated. Is yoga safe for someone with osteoporosis? What actually matters when teaching students with arthritis? Is posture really linked to back pain? Does ageing inevitably mean decline?
This immersive weekend training is designed to bring clarity, grounded in science and delivered with practical relevance.
Across two days, we’ll explore four key and often misunderstood topics that many yoga teachers encounter regularly in their classes.
DAY ONE
Osteoporosis:
Understanding bone health, bone density, and fracture risk
Common myths surrounding osteoporosis and movement
Current physical activity guidelines and the role of resistance training
Practical considerations for adapting yoga classes safely and confidently
Arthritis:
Exploring the different types of arthritis and how they may affect movement
Understanding pain, stiffness, inflammation, and flare-ups
Physical activity recommendations and what current research suggests
Practical teaching adaptations, modifications, and communication strategies
DAY TWO
Chronic low back pain:
Moving beyond simplistic structural explanations for pain
Understanding contemporary pain science and biopsychosocial factors
Common myths around posture, core stability, and movement
Helping students build confidence, resilience, and self-efficacy through yoga
Demystifying ageing:
Understanding the physiology of ageing and what is actually “normal”
Exploring strength, balance, mobility, recovery, and resilience across the lifespan
Challenging fear-based narratives around ageing and movement
Practical ways yoga teachers can support healthy ageing in an inclusive and empowering way
What you’ll gain:
Over the course of the weekend, you’ll develop:
A clearer, evidence-based understanding of these common conditions and topics
Greater confidence supporting students with nuance and compassion
Practical teaching strategies and adaptations you can apply immediately
More precise and empowering teaching language
Improved confidence interpreting research and navigating conflicting information
A deeper appreciation of how yoga can support long-term health, capacity, and wellbeing
There will be a mixture of lecture, discussion, group work, movement exploration, and practical demonstration throughout the weekend.
This workshop counts towards CPD requirements for Yoga Alliance (10 hours).
Each day will run from 10.30am – 1.00pm and 2.00pm – 4.30pm.
